WITH Wakefield Trinity Wildcats well under way with their plans to build a new squad for next season, rumours have surfaced that the club are chasing two overseas half-backs.
The likes of Peter Fox, Oliver Wilkes, Ali Lauititi, Steve Southern and Vince Mellars have already pledged their services to the Wildcats next season but there appears to be more on the way and two half-backs of ‘international standard’ are the latest to be linked with a move to Wakefield.
The club has yet to confirm the identity of the players at the heart of the renewed speculation but former Wigan Warriors playmaker Tim Smith could be one of those under consideration by Trinity.
The 26-year-old had a short stint at Wigan during 2008 and 2009 before returning to Australia to join Brisbane Broncos and more recently, Cronulla Sharks, where his contract expires at the end of this season.
Wakefield could face competition from Super League new boys Widnes Vikings who have also been linked with Smith.
