WAKEFIELD Trinity Wildcats prop forward Liam Higgins has been named in the Serbia train on squad for the 2013 World Cup European Zone Qualifiers.
Higgins qualifies for selection due to his Serbian mother and his impressive performances in the red, white and blue this year have seen him be called up for representative honours.
Higgins will hook-up with the squad comprised mainly of players from nine-time champions Dorcol Spiders and coached by Marko Jankovi, who said: “Our opponents in the qualifications have already announced their train-on squads, which are noticeable by the numerous famous rugby league names included.
“It is going to be very interesting and promises to be a quality tournament. However, we, are relying on our own strength.
“The train-on squad integrates names involved in last year’s European Shield and this year’s international warm-up matches, as well as several young players that I believe will be the future backbone of the national team.
“It is too early to speak about the final list, but for sure, whoever appears in it has to be prepared for three consecutive weeks of high-quality games.”
Serbia play their last warm-up game against Ukraine on September 30 in Belgrade.
The World Cup qualifying campaign kicks off on October 16 in Lebanon.
Following the match in Tripoli, the team fly back home to host Italy on October 23 and Russia six days later.
