WAKEFIELD Trinity Wildcats U20s’ brilliant campaign in the Valvoline Cup came to an end yesterday, Sunday, with a 56-6 semi-final loss to Wigan Warriors.
Following their gutsy win over Leeds Rhinos in the previous round, Wakefield went into the weekend’s game at the Co-operative Community Stadium, in Orrell, full of confidence and only one step away from the Grand Final.
However, the young Warriors team proved too strong for Trinity and tries from Stefan Marsh (2), Matthew Russell, Jayden Sandford, Joe Mellor, Sam Powell, Dom Crosby, Logan Tomkins, Jack Hughes and Scott Leatherbarrow steered Wigan to success.
Marsh, Jack Murphy (2) and Leatherbarrow (5) added goals to Wigan’s tally while Wakefield responded through Dale Morton’s try and Kyle Trout’s goal.
In the final, Warriors will play Warrington Wolves, who defeated Castleford Tigers 38-18 in the other semi-final.
