WAKEFIELD Trinity Wildcats missed out on the Rugby League 9s crown in the finals night at Headingley last night, Tuesday, but took consolation with a victory in the Carnegie 9s Plate competition.
Wildcats lost 10-0 to eventual winners Cumbria in the quarter-final, bringing an end to Trinity’s 11-match winning run in the competition.
But Glenn Morrison’s men recovered to defeat London Broncos in the Plate semi-finals, tries from Sam Parkin, Kieran Hyde, Liam Kay and Sam Fletcher securing an 18-4 success.
And they clinched the Plate trophy with a 28-6 triumph over Warrington Wolves in the final. Fletcher led the Wildcats’ charge with a hat-trick while Kay and Ryan Wright added the other scores.
