Wakefield Wildcats lost 24-8 to Featherstone Rovers in Sunday’s pre-season game after a making a dismal start.
They were 16-0 down after nine minutes and the first try they conceded came straight from the kick-off after just six seconds.
The Wildcats recovered to cut the half-time deficit to 16-8 but they fell away again in the second-half when they failed to score.
It was a poor performance by the Super League side whose shaky handling and weak tackling often let them down.
They were outfought by a much sharper Featherstone side, for whom winger Jamel Chisholm scored three tries.
Former Wakefield player Matt James and Will Sharp were Championship outfit Featherstone’s other try scorers.
Wakefield’s try scorers were Dean Collis, who was one of their better players, and Peter Fox.
