TALENTED taekwondo ace Hannah Mayes has taken her martial arts skills north of the border to win the Scottish Cup.
The 16-year-old’s achievement was made even more impressive given she moved up to compete in the senior section of the competition, which was held in Falkirk.
The Crofton High School pupil took gold in the heavyweight category after defeating a more experienced 19-year-old Scottish opponent with a convincing 13-1 points victory.
Hannah, who was highly commended for her achievements at the Wakefield District Sports Awards on Monday night, was one of the youngest competitors involved in the competition.
Due to numbers being low in the junior section, competitors were invited to step up and test their talents against senior opposition.
And the Skorpion Taekwondo club ace blew away her opposition to return to the Merrie City with top honours.
Hannah will step up to senior level at the start of next year and she now knows she can compete with the best at that level.
The only sour point of a successful trip to Scotland was a broken hand suffered by the youngster in the final.
It means she’ll be out of action for 12 weeks and is likely to miss out on selection for the forthcoming European Championships.
She’s aiming to return to training at her Doncaster-based club as soon as possible and return to competition for the British Open in the Autumn.
