WAKEFIELD Harriers star Charlene Thomas has set her sights on World and Olympic glory after enjoying her scintillating success at the European Team Championships in Sweden.

Thomas produced one of the performances of her career to see off a top-drawer field and claim victory in the 1500m in a time of 4 min 6.85 secs in the red, white and blue of Britain.

The time was the second fastest of her career but the 29-year-old, who became just the fourth British woman to win the 1500m in the tournament’s 46-year history, is confident she can go even faster this year.

“I know I can definitely go faster,” she insisted.

“I’ve had some good times this year but all my races have been in poor weather conditions.

“I’ve been making personal bests in training and I know I can keep on getting better.”

Thomas’s Swedish success has seen her invited to compete in the Samsung Diamond League meeting in Lausanna, Switzerland, on Thursday.

The Harrier will jet off to the event in the knowledge that breaking the target time of 4:05.9, and finishing in the top-two in the UK Trials that follow, will see her heading for the World Championships in South Korea.

The championships take place at the end of August in Daegu and will provide the perfect stepping stone to qualifying and competing in the 2012 London Olympics.
