CK Vikings ARLFC climbed to the top of Pennine League Division Two by maintaining their unbeaten league record in Saturday’s top-of-the-table game against Underbank Rangers at Walton Sports and Social Club.

The Wakefield team moved above former leaders Underbank by beating them 29-0 to inflict their first league defeat.

The Vikings went ahead when Martin Hartley’s clever pass saw Will Field finish clinically out wide and Nick Sambrook converted.

They doubled their lead when Aaron Winks jinked his way through for a try that Sambrook again improved.

Vikings continued to dominate and made it 18-0 before half-time when Hartley dummied his way over and Sambrook added his third goal.

The home side made a perfect start to the second-half when winger Brad Arrowsmith, who won the the D and M Buildings Solution-sponsored man of the match award, gathered the ball from dummy half near his own 40 metre mark and shrugged aside several defenders before racing over. Sambrook’s conversion gave Vikings a commanding 24-0 lead.

Playing down the slope, Underbank then came far more into the game but they were thwarted by CK’s excellent defence.

Vikings sealed victory when Tom Consterdine sent Field barging his way over for his second try and Sambrook kicked a drop goal.
