WAKEFIELD Harriers’ Martyn Bernard has failed to qualify for the men’s high jump final at the World Athletics Championships in Daegu, South Korea.

Bernard needed to clear 2.31m to guarantee a place in Thursday’s final but had three failures at 2.25m to crash out of the competition.

Competing in qualification group B today, Tuesday, Bernard struggled to get going and needed third-time clearances at 2.16m and 2.21m to remain in the competition.

However, 2.25m proved to be too much for the Harrier as he finished 13th in the group.

Fellow Briton Tom Parsons also missed out on a place in the final, having suffered three failures at 2.28m in qualification group A.
