Wakefield Trinity Wildcats hooker Kyle Wood has joined Huddersfield Giants on loan for the rest of the season ahead of a permanent move to the John Smith’s Stadium next year.
Wood will return to the Giants for a second spell after signing a three-year deal for 2014 and looks to have played his last game for Wakefield after agreeing an immediate loan move to the Giants for the rest of the campaign.
Wildcats had entered talks earlier this year with Wood over a contract extension at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium but those talks broke down with the player keen on a move to Huddersfield.
Wildcats chief executive James Elston said: “It makes sense for all parties that Kyle joins the Giants for the remainder of the season in light of his contract with them from next year.
“It allows us to give an opportunity to other members of our squad to step up for the rest of this campaign with a view to the future at the club and we’re confident that we have the talent in the squad to do that.
“We’d like to thank Kyle for his efforts at the club and wish him well at the Giants.”
Wood has made 42 appearances in his second spell in the red, white and blue but the majority of those came from the replacements bench due to Paul Aiton’s fine form at hooker.
He trained with the Giants today and could feature for his new club in their match at Hull FC this weekend.
