Agar pours cold water on further Wakefield Wildcats player departures
WAKEFIELD Trinity Wildcats head coach Richard Agar has poured cold water over any further player departures from the club in the near future.
Prop Matt James left the Rapid Solicitors Stadium for Featherstone Rovers yesterday and both Oliver Wilkes and Isaac John have been linked with pastures new.
Agar says he is happy with his current squad, however, and is looking to bolster it, rather than deplete it, before the start of the new season.
“It’s the first I’ve heard of it,” Agar said of the Wilkes rumours.
“The last thing we need is another forward leaving the club, and if anything we’re looking at adding one more to our options for next season.”
Wakefield have already brought in Justin Poore from the NRL for 2013 and Agar is looking at another British forward to complement his current options.
He is in “no rush” to secure that extra forward but has confirmed he has his eyes on “one or two targets”.
Isaac John is also seemingly part of Agar’s plans next season, with the ‘Cats coach saying it is the first he has heard about the Australian leaving the club.
Wildcats will operate with a “slightly smaller” squad next season, according to Agar, but he says competition for places will be high with every one of his first-team squad potentially a Super League starter in 2013.
A deal to sign Bobbie Goulding Jr is still a way off, however, with the Wildcats boss revealing the Warrington Wolves youngster is looking at a number of options for his future.
Wakefield have already held talks with Goulding - whose dad is the former Wakefield and Great Britain scrum-half - and the player has since been on holiday.
Agar said: “I think a few more clubs have shown an interest in Bobbie and he’s mulling over his options.
