THE Super League XVIII fixtures were released on Monday and Wakefield Wildcats boss Richard Agar says his side have every chance of making a good start to the campaign.

Four of Wakefield’s first six matches of 2013 are against sides that finished outside of last season’s top eight, starting with a trip to Odsal to face Bradford Bulls on Sunday, February 3.

It means Wakefield have a good opportunity to start the season well and get early points on the board.

But the ’Cats boss is well aware that a new-look Bulls side with a new chairman and new head coach will be keen to get off to a flying start after last season’s financial troubles.

“I think the start is okay for us,” said Agar.

“The fixtures give us the opportunity to put down some early points.

“We know every game is going to be tough though, we have to play every team home and away and we have an away game first.

“Bradford have a new coach [Francis Cummins] who will be going into his first Super League game as a head coach so they’ll be wanting to get their season off to a good start.

“We also have to take into consideration the conditions at that time of the season at Odsal.

“The ground will probably be harder and it could be damp, that’s going to change the style of the game so we have to be wary of that.”

Wakefield’s first home match of the season, against Hull KR on Saturday, February 9 has been selected for live Sky coverage and will kick-off at 5.45pm.

The fixture calendar in March and April looks more daunting for Wildcats with home games against Leeds Rhinos, Hull FC and Warrington Wolves and trips to St Helens, old foes Castleford Tigers and Wigan Warriors.

Agar is also not a fan of Monday night matches - and Wakefield have three in the space of a month.

Wildcats visit Salford City Reds on Monday, June 10 and make the trip to Hull FC on Monday, July 1 before hosting Widnes Vikings at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium a week later. All three matches are live on Sky.

“One of the biggest things on the fixture list as far as I’m concerned are the Monday night matches,” he said.

“They’re not ideal. I’m a big fan of matches kicking-off on a Sunday afternoon, we had some great matches on a Sunday down at our ground last season.”
