Bears boss Lines favours potential groundshare with Wakefield Wildcats

WAKEFIELD FC manager Paul Lines says he’d favour a move to share Wakefield Wildcats’ Rapid Solicitors Stadium next season.

The Bears, who currently groundshare with Ossett Town, held initial talks with the Super League club last November about sharing facilities and backed Wildcats’ campaign for the proposed £19 million complex at Newmarket.

The discussions also included a return to Belle Vue, where Wakefield played between 2000-06, next season.

Wakefield FC director Pete Bevils told the Express in December: “They [Wildcats] want our support for the new stadium and it makes sense for the city’s football team to share facilities with the city’s rugby league team.

“We also discussed using Belle Vue again, something which could happen from the start of next season.”

A move back to Belle Vue is something backed by current boss Lines, but he says any concrete decision is still a way off.

“Plans are in place I believe but they’re only in the early stages,” he said.

“A lot boils down to the new stadium [Newmarket] but I think it’d be great for the club to move back to Belle Vue.

“It’s more central in Wakefield and hopefully it’ll attract some more supporters. The playing surface is great as well and would suit our playing style down to the ground.

“It’s probably something that will be discussed more at the end of this season.”

The Bears had to leave their former home at College Grove last season and are grateful to Evo-Stik Division 1 North rivals Ossett Town for allowing them to groundshare at their Stade France base.
