Challenge Cup time-out is cool for Cats

WAKEFIELD Wildcats will need to put the disappointment of not being involved in this weekend's Challenge Cup games to one side as they look to build on their positive showing against Leeds Rhinos in Edinburgh.

John Kear and his men face a weekend without competitive action following their early exit in the prestigious competition against Harlequins last month.

But the Twickenham Stoop loss will need to be quickly forgotten if Wakefield are to push on from their encouraging performance despite the agonising 34-30 defeat against Leeds last weekend.

Bradford Bulls visit the Hearwell Stadium next Friday and head coach Kear will use the blank weekend to prepare his troops in the search of two vital Super League points.

The break will also move a number of the Wildcats' injured stars a week closer to full fitness.

Glenn Morrison, Matt Blaymire, Paul Cooke and Daryl Millard are all on the sidelines through injury and will be nudged a week closer to returning to bolster Kear's options.

The Cats are also still "on track" to sign their replacement for Shane Tronc this month.

Kear has already confirmed that a contract has been penned with a player and that they're waiting for a work permit to complete the move.

A club spokesperson said: "We're still progressing with the deal and we hope to have it completed by the end of the month."
