Kear looks to put points with performance against Bradford Bulls
WAKEFIELD Wildcats will look to turn their recent upturn in performances into points when Bradford Bulls visit the Hearwell Stadium tonight.
John Kear's men have lost five games on the spin in all competitions but came agonisingly close to ending their poor run in their close-fought 34-30 defeat against champions Leeds Rhinos at Murrayfield Magic last time out.
The Wildcats head coach has been relatively pleased with his side's performances over their last three games, despite failing to pick up any points and crashing out of the Challenge Cup.
But he's hoping to add points to a good performance when the Bulls arrive in town tonight and keep Wakefield in the Super League top eight.
"We've been showing improvements in the last three performances, particularly against Leeds," he said.
"Everybody wants to see points on the competition ladder and we're no different so we need to keep playing well and keep improving but we also need to post results as well."
The Bulls come into the game on the back of a comprehensive Challenge Cup success against Leigh last weekend.
And Kear isn't expecting an easy ride against their West Yorkshire opponents.
"I think they're one of the form teams," he said.
"They had a little blip against Crusaders but I think they were very professional and very relentless against Leigh last week.
"So they'll be feeling pretty good about themselves and coming here with expectancy but this is our home ground and we do need to put the result with the performance this week and it's Bradford that stand in our way."
Wakefield took an unwanted week off last weekend following their early exit in the Challenge Cup.
But, although allowing some injured players to move closer to returning to full fitness, Kear is unsure whether the weekend without competitive action will benefit his troops.
"It can work both ways can't it," he said.
"Bradford didn't play that well at Murrayfield but I think they'll have restored a lot of confidence with a very comprehensive victory over Leigh, and if we played last week and picked up a win I'm sure it'll have boosted us.
"It did allow us t get Paul Cooke back on board, but obviously it hasn't allowed us to play a game and continue our improvements.
"I'll tell you after the game if it's been a benefit."
