Kear rallies Wakefield Wildcats ahead of Magic Weekend

WAKEFIELD Wildcats head coach John Kear says his players should "be crawling over broken glass" to play in their Magic Weekend clash with Leeds Rhinos.

The Wildcats will take on the engage Super League champions at Murrayfield on Saturday, having beaten them 28-18 at the Hearwell Stadium on Valentine's Day.

But they will face a much different Rhinos side in Edinburgh where Kear is hoping for a massive turnout from some of the most passionate club supporters in rugby league.

Kear says that too much shouldn't be read into the previous meeting between the two clubs as he looks for the Wildcats to bounce back from a recent dip in their own form.

"We can take confidence from the fact that we achieved something we hadn't done before, in securing a home victory against the Rhinos in Super League," Kear said.

"But this is completely different – it's on a neutral ground and is probably, dare I say it, the highlight fixture of the weekend. It's one to savour and from a player's point of view they should be crawling over broken glass to play in fixtures like this."

Kear admits it may not be the best time to face a rejuvenated Leeds but says that the Wildcats will be ready for the challenge.

"We played Harlequins at the wrong time and it looks like we could be running into Leeds at the wrong time," Kear said.

"But that's part of the sport – at different times some teams have a lot of injuries, or have players coming back into the side and back into form.

"If that's the case with Leeds then so be it, we will just get up there and prepare as thoroughly as we can. It's a heck of a challenge in front of us."

Tickets for Magic Weekend are still available with full weekend passes priced from 30 and 15 for concessions. Wakefield Wildcats season ticket holders are entitled to a 50 per cent discount.
