Super League leaders Wigan Warriors demolish Wakefield Wildcats

Wigan Warriors 54 Wakefield Wildcats 14 SUPER League XV leaders Wigan Warriors maintained their 100 per cent home record with a convincing victory over Wakefield Wildcats at the DW Stadium.

The game was effectively over at the break as the hosts posted 32 unanswered points on the scoreboard during the first 40 minutes.

It took only two minutes for the Warriors to open their account as Amos Roberts latched onto Darrell Goulding's kick to touch down.

Pat Richards kicked off his impressive points haul with the conversion and he went over for the second try four minutes later, adding a fine touchline conversion to double the Warriors' lead.

Richards crossed for his second try on 17 minutes, again adding the conversion, before Joel Tomkins raced over for an unconverted try eight minutes later.

Roberts bagged his second of the game six minutes before the break but sustained a bad leg injury in the process and was stretchered-off before Richards added the goal to make it 28-0.

Goulding rounded-off the first-half demolition with another try shortly before the break and the one-way traffic continued just two minutes after the break when Goulding scored his second of the game.

The Wildcats finally got going on 46 minutes when Damien Blanch intercepted to race away and score a try converted by Paul Cooke.

The try marked the beginning of a purple patch for the Cats as Matt Blaymire scored unconverted tries on 51 and 55 minutes.

But Wigan hit back just after the hour when debutant Liam Farrell touched-down. Richards added the extras before crossing for his hat-trick 10 minutes later and adding another goal.

Goulding ended the game with his hat-trick score and Richards took his haul to 26 points with the conversion.
