Super League round-up: Giants thump Vikings, Wolves tear through Broncos, Bulls shock Tigers

BEN Cockayne scored against his former club but it wasn't enough to stop Wakefield Trinity Wildcats falling to their first defeat of the Super League XVII season against Hull KR on Sunday.

The Robins were eager to bounce back from their opening day defeat at Leeds Rhinos and tries from Mickey Paea, Constantine Mika, Josh Hodgson and Rhys Lovegrove gave them two points in a 22-10 win at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium.

Andy Raleigh scored Wakefield's other try and the hosts enjoyed the majority of the ball in the second half but they couldn't find a way through the Rovers line.

The district's other side Castleford Tigers also suffered defeat in their first home match of the season as Bradford Bulls left the PROBIZ Coliseum with a 20-12 win.

Jarrod Sammut, Tom Burgess and Brett Kearney scored for the Bulls, who slumped to defeat against Catalan Dragons last time out, while Josh Griffin and Richard Owen scored for Castleford.

Former Wakefield winger Luke George scored a hat-trick as freescoring Huddersfield Giants took top-spot with a thumping 66-6 win over Widnes Vikings.

Leroy Cudjoe crossed the line four times, while Luke Robinson, Scott Grix, Jason Chan, Joe Wardle and Greg Eden also helped themselves to tries and Danny Brough kicked nine goals. Paddy Flynn responded with the only try for the visitors.

Sunday's other Super League match saw Warrington Wolves chalk up a half century of points against London Broncos. Former Wakefield centre Ryan Atkins scored two tries, as did Chris Bridge, Joel Monaghan and Lee Briers. Stefan Ratchford completed the try-scoring. Michael Witt and Michael Robinson responded for the Broncos.

Winger Josh Charnley scored a hat-trick of tries as Wigan Warriors bounced back from last week's defeat with a 20-6 success over Leeds Rhinos on Saturday. Pat Richards complemented Charnley with four goals. Darrell Griffin responded for the Rhinos.

St Helens opened up the weekend's action with a 38-10 success against Salford City Reds. Iosia Soliola, James Roby, Francis Meli, Andrew Dixon (2), Jon Wilkin and Anthony Laffranchi scored the Saints tries. Jodie Broughton and Ashley Gibson replied for Salford.
