Wakefield Wildcats Academy end regular season on high with win over Warrington Wolves
Wildcats Academy 40 Wolves Academy 24 WILDCATS Academy wrapped up their regular season with an impressive win over their closest rivals.
The Academy had already secured top spot in the table going into this game at the Hearwell Stadium on Saturday, but refused to pull their punches and ran in seven tries to extend their unbeaten run to 15 matches.
Joel Gibson missed out on the opening try after four minutes because of a foot in touch, but minutes later Danny Cowling intercepted from 40 metres out to cross between the uprights.
And after Wolves had had a try disallowed, Chris Annakin bagged Wakefield's second try.
A try for the visitors was cancelled out by a Tom Harrington score just after the half-hour, though Wolves did manage to cut the half-time deficit to just eight points.
And a try just after the break cut the gap to four points, but Jordan Lowther's converted score put Wildcats back in the driving seat.
Further tries from Matty Wildie and Will Colleran made the game safe, while Kyle Trout touched down between consolation scores from Warrington late on.
