WAKEFIELD Trinity Wildcats have bolstered their under-19s squad with six new faces.
Castleford Tigers trio Jack Walton, Connor Wick and Scott Talbot have all made the short switch to the Rapid Solicitors Stadium while former Hunslet Warriors pair Nathan Robinson and Jack Teanby and Stanningley’s Tom Johnston have also become Wildcats players.
The players caught the eye of Wakefield’s Head of Youth Development Ryan Hudson, who has helped build Wildcats’ new-look, 26 player-strong Academy team for 2013.
“We have now created competition in all positions with a 26-man squad,” said Hudson.
“All the lads have been in for the first week testing and their attitude has been impressive. Over the next three and half months we will be training through the day every Monday and Wednesday to get extra technical and tactical work that is required to improve overall skill and game awareness and also building a bond between players.
“They’re training up at Crofton and we have excellent facilities there including a team lounge where all the boys eat, a snooker table and it’s all aimed at building a great team spirit.”
Wakefield, along with all other Super League clubs, had to rebuild their Academy set-up owing to the scrapping of an under-18s and under-20s competition for next season in favour of the under-19s set-up.
The club offered 12 players their first professional contracts to be part of the initial 20-man squad last month.
