Wakefield Wildcats boss Agar draws line under ‘i-pitch’ row
Richard Agar
HEAD coach Richard Agar has drawn a line under the ‘i-pitch’ row that erupted between Wakefield Trinity Wildcats and Widnes Vikings this week.
The Vikings’ synthetic ‘i-pitch’ came under fire from Wakefield’s Richie Mathers who complained of grazed arms and legs following Trinity’s 32-14 Stobart Super League victory last Friday.
Widnes boss Denis Betts responded to the criticism by telling Mathers to ‘man up’ but Agar has defused the row saying: “We weren’t the only team to get some abrasions on the knees and elbows last week.
“There has been a little bit on the social networking scene I believe that has caused a bit of a stir but all the boys are ok.
“It has been quite an amusing bit of fun for the players this week and I think Richie has moved on and I am sure Denis meant it in the greatest spirit as well.
“Everyone has their opinion on the pitch. I gave my opinion and other players gave theirs but the opinion that has been picked up is the one that is probably a bit negative.
“We have moved on and it’s been much ado about nothing.”
Agar went on to defend the Vikings pitch saying: “You can see the benefits. They train on it and it’s a consistent surface week in, week out.
“It could be the future for everyone. We have got to see how the surface holds up over a period of months.”
