WAKEFIELD Trinity Wildcats have renamed the East Stand at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium after Eric France.

Mr France was honoured at Wakefield’s first Stobart Super League XVII home game against Hull KR last Sunday.

A long standing supporter of rugby league in Wakefield and the wider area, Eric France has backed many of the club’s community initiatives and his name adorns the front of the club’s shirts.

A regular attendee at Wildcats home games, Mr France said: “I am so proud that the Wildcats have named the stand after me.

“It is taking some time to sink in and I’m not sure I’ll ever get used to the idea.

“It’s a real honour but the most important thing now is that the team do well. I believe the club is heading in the right direction not only on the playing field but also for the work it does in the community.

“I feel welcome and at home as part of the Wildcats team and I will do everything I can to help it succeed.”

Wildcats chief executive James Elston said: “Eric France has done so much for the local community and this is our way of thanking him for his support to Wakefield and the surrounding area.

“We’re just as proud as Eric is to see his name above the stand in what we believe is a fitting honour for someone who has done a lot for the Wildcats and its supporters.”
