Wakefield Wildcats pounded by Huddersfield Giants

Wakefield Wildcats 0 Huddersfield Giants 52 HUDDERSFIELD Giants out-did Wakefield Wildcats in all departments in front of the Sky TV cameras on Saturday evening.

From the very first whistle, Giants were quicker in attack and defence, much more motivated for the full 80 minutes, defensively stronger, and more assured in attack.

Anyone turning up at the Hearwell Stadium regularly this season wouldn't have recognised the home side as being the side that had beaten Super League champions Leeds Rhinos so smartly just a few weeks ago.

Wildcats were chasing the game after only six minutes when David Fa'alogo forced his way over for the first of his team's ten tries.

Full-back Leroy Cudjoe converted but went on to land only six from ten attempts thereby lightening the embarrassment load a little for the hosts.

Giants ravaged Wakefield's right-side defence and added further first-half tries through Paul Whatuira, Martin Aspinwall, Cudjoe and former Wakefield utility man Scott Grix to lead 26-0 at the break.

There was no Bradford-esque recovering in the second half for Wakefield as Huddersfield piled on the misery after Lee Gilmour had touched down at the end of another sparkling move on 44 minutes.

David Hodgson, Grix again, Larne Patrick and hooker Shaun Lunt added tries after Wakefield had managed to postpone the inevitable for about 15 minutes.

One plus point from the hosts: Glenn Morrison worked his socks off. Unfortunately no one else in the home side managed to follow his example.

Wildcats: Blaymire, Murphy, Millard, Gleeson, Morton, Jeffries, Brough, Tronc, Leo-Latu, Korkidas, Morrison, Ferguson, Demetriou. Subs: Blanch, Moore, Obst, Henderson.

Giants: Cudjoe, Lawrence, Lolesi, Whatuira, Hodgson, Brown, Robinson, Griffin, Lunt, Raleigh, Gilmour, Fa'alogo, Aspinwall. Subs: Crabtree, Faiumu, Grix, Patrick.
