Wildcats suffer sixth straight defeat

Wakefield Wildcats 10 Bradford Bulls 29 BULLS scored 29 unanswered points to inflict a sixth straight defeat on the Wildcats.

Wildcats survived a torrid opening ten minutes by the Bulls and went 10-0 up with tries by Aaron Murphy and Paul Johnson before the mid-point in the half.

Paul Cooke converted the Johnson try.

But after Paul Sykes had fluffed a third kick-try attempt Bradford started to get their act together.

And bang on the half-time hooter the visitors put together the best passage of passing play together involving Whitehead, Sykes (twice) and Menzies with Chris Nero finishing off.

Two minutes into the second half the usually reliable Sam Obst fumbled, gifting Bulls possession in the attacking third of the pitch.

And Heath L'Estrange kicked through for Steve Menzie to dive on the ball. Sykes converted to level.

And four minutes later Nero streaked down the left wing, after a good break down the right by Reardon had set up the attack, to claim his second try.

Another four minutes on and Sykes put over a penalty conversion to take the lead out to six points.

Bradford then had to defend repeat sets as Wildcats forced three drop-out re-starts but the truth is Wakefield had plenty of ball but didn't appear to know what to do with it.

Just before the hour Sykes tried a drop-goal, then popped one over on 64 minutes to make that little bit more difficult for Wakefield.

And five minutes from time the impressive Wayne Godwin darted in from dummy-half to effectively win the game.

Sykes converted and landed another two points after L'Estrange had scored the final try a minute from time - following up his own grubber that fooled the Wakefield defence when it came back off the post padding.

Another lead lost, another game lost, another error-prone display. Perhaps the players are just trying too hard to stop the rot instead of concentrating on getting the basics right.
