Wildcats youngsters front up well against Saints
St Helens U20s 22 Wildcats U20s 10 DEFENCE played a key role in St Helens' victory over Wakefield on Saturday.
Dave Sutton scored the opening try in the very first minute, but then Saints had to be on top defensively as Wakefield matched them in attack.
To be fair, neither side really got to grips with the ball in hand - not surprising for so early in the season.
But there was plenty to encourage Academy boss Tony Drury: "We had six players in the team who can still play in the U18s, so it was a young side that stood up well against a quality St Helens side.
"I felt it could have gone either way. There were a few errors when we could have scored.
"It was a really good game to watch, the forwards didn't compromise and the half-backs played a lot of football.
"I'm really pleased with the guys."
Wildcats: Will Colleran, Damien Blanch, Lucas Walshaw, Matthew Fox, Danny Lawton, Cain Southernwood, Jordan Lowther, Ben Gledhill, Matthew Wildie, Kyle Bibb, Danny Cowling, Kyle Trout, Chris Annekin. Subs: Luke Pettman, Sam Scott, Adam Slater, Matthew King.
Tries: Lawton, Scott. Goals: Southernwood 1 from 2.
