Wakey Wheeled Cats will face their very first adversaries in their second home bout of the year, next weekend.
On Saturday, March 31, the Cats will take on the Dolly Rockit Rollers ‘b’ team, the Raggy Dollz.
Wakey will be looking to gain face after losing to the Dolly’s travel team in their first ever competitive bout in November 2010. Cats co-founder Stephanie Sellers said: “The Dolly Rockits have built up a solid team and an excellent reputation for wins since we first met on the track, so we’re eager to see how we’ll fair against the Raggy Dollz.
“We’ve had a lot of changes in the team since 2010, with a lot of newer skaters on our side, so we should be fairly matched.
“The Cats are hungry for a win so if you want a taste of competitive roller derby, come along and watch.”
The Dolly Rockits, from Leicester, have built up a strong team that feature two players that represented their countries in December’s Roller Derby World Cup.
Roller derby is a family-friendly sport and fans of all ages are welcome.
A raffle, including top prizes donated by local businesses, will raise money for Wakefield charity the Rosalie Ryrie Foundation.
There will be merchandise from both teams, as well as jewellery, crafts and other stalls, and a few surprises.
Huddersfield Sports Centre also has a fully licensed bar.
