Yorkshire all-rounder Rich Pyrah is set to lead Ossett CC in their return to Central Yorkshire League Premier Division action this weekend.
The Dimple Wells club visit Hunslet Nelson tomorrow, Saturday, in their first match back in the top flight since promotion from Division 1.
Pyrah featured in a number of matches last season as Ossett bounced straight back from relegation in 2011 to achieve promotion and also lift the Yorkshire Council Supplementary Cup.
This year, with the 30-year-old not expecting to feature in too much four-day cricket for Yorkshire, Ossett have handed him the captaincy.
It was an idea put forward by last season’s captain Michael Edwards, who will continue to lead the team when Pyrah is not available.
“Having his first class experience and knowledge will only help us this year,” said Edwards.
“I will have an input but the final say on selection and on the field will be down to Rich.
“Personally I am hoping to learn a lot from him as he won’t play every game and I will then captain the team.”
Yorkshire bolstered their bowling options for their return to LV County Championship Division One with the signings of Liam Plunkett and Jack Brook and Pyrah missed out on selection in the opening league game of the season against Surrey.
He is expected to play more in the short form of the game this summer but Yorkshire’s loss is Ossett’s gain.
Ossett are also set to be boosted by the arrival of Pakistan spinner Khalid Usman.
The 27-year-old is awaiting his visa to be the club’s overseas signing in 2013.
Ossett follow Saturday’s opener with a home match against Hanging Heaton on Sunday in the first round of the Heavy Woollen Cup.
