SIMON Cowell, Take That and Gavin and Stacey actor James Corden have all been rumoured to be in the running to make England's official World Cup 2010 song.
But an Altofts man is hoping his track will be the one fans choose to chant on the terraces of South Africa and in pubs and living rooms at home.
Click here to listen to the songPete McGowan's England Terrace Anthem, which was recorded at his home on Windross Close, has already had more than 4,200 hits on video sharing website YouTube.
Mr McGowan, 50, said: "If Simon Cowell thinks he's can come up with a better song then he's wrong - mine's better than anything he could do.
"I don't want him telling me what my England song is going to be like, what does he know about football?
"I'm not bothered about making money, that's not why I'm doing it - I'm doing it from the heart."
Mr McGowan also produced a song for the Euro '96 competition called Fans Of Eleven Men, which was released as a single.
He said: "The build up to 2010 has already started and people are racing to make the next World Cup song. I've got to admit there's some good ones out there.
"I can't sing but I know how to put music together. I recorded it in my garage and I've got a studio and mixing desk in my bedroom.
"But if anyone wants to suggest any ideas them I'm up for that."
