DANCE dynamos from Outwood schools have been learning a few new moves from Wildcats' dancers as part of a new community initiative.
The Super League club’s community dance manager spent six hours with kids from Lofthouse Gate Primary, Ledger Lane J&I, Kirkhamgate Primary, Wrenthorpe Primary and Jerry Clay Lane J&I, delivering streetdance classes to girls and boys.

The finale show was held at Outwood Grange College on Monday where the youngsters teamed up with year 11s to put on an impressive performance.

Part funded by Heart Research UK, the outreach dance programme aims to encourage kids to look after their hearts by staying active and healthy and James Elston, Wildcats’ head of community marketing, hailed it a success.

He said: “It all started from a project where schools were to pay for our Wildcats Dolls to go in and teach dance.

“But the response was so great we wanted to do more and not attach a cost. As a result, we hired Sarah Robinson to become our community dance manager and run dance programmes for schools across Wakefield, this being the first.

“It was an amazing event, especially as each school had just six hours of training.

“What they produced was phenomenal and it was great to see so many parents come along.”

Miss Robinson explained they chose streetdance so the boys could get involved alongside the girls.

She added: “Almost all the lads took part, which was one of the highlights. It’s very difficult to get boys into dancing, but they were great. It’s the first time the club has done anything like this and it’s a great way to get the kids healthy and involved with the club.”
