STADIUM Wakefield Action Group (SWAG) has come up with a new way to target Wakefield council chiefs.
As well as the planned protest outside Wakefield Town Hall on Tuesday morning against the local authority's decision to pull on the plug on the Thornes Park stadium development, SWAG will be handing out postcards.

SWAG see this as a key element of their overall strategy. The postcards are addressed to chief executive officer Joanne Roney.

"WMDC are to discuss papers on Tuesday which we fear will include the removal of all funding for all of the Rugby League clubs in the district," said SWAG spokesman Phil Townsend.

"This would be in complete contradiction of their own proposals to develop a Community Sports Stadium and Sports Village complex in Thornes Park, for which around £70,000 worth of public money has been spent – presumably indicating that there was an intention to build such a facility at some point!"

Protesters are expected to converge on the Town Hall from around 9am and to remain in attendance until the start of the cabinet meeting at 10am.

SWAG should just shut up and go away, Wakefield have mis-managed the club for years and spent too much money on players in order to stay in Super Legue and not attracted anywhere near enough supporters, they do not deserve a new stadium and the SWAG people are embarrassing themselves by accusing the council of favouritism towards Cas, its plainly rediculous and they should stop behaving like spoilt little children. Cas have been prudent in managing their future whilst Wakefield stood by and laughed at our predicament. Lets just see now who has the last laugh!!

How many more time must we have to read stories about The Wildcats protesting about the WMDC's decision NOT to fund a ground.

Is it to be that every finance story will have a link to the Wildcats ground!

I say the decision has been made, live with it, move on and plan for your futures and stop blaming everyone else but yourselves - after all you have had nearly 6 years to put your house in order - the conditions of entry into Super league meant you should upgrade your facilities - you failed - in my opinion you should be removed from Super league and replaced with Widnes of Leigh. You have 3 years top plan for, that's plenty of time for you to sort it - I doubt you will .
