The poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy will give a special reading to raise funds for this year’s Wakefield Lit Fest.

She will appear at The Orangery, on Back Lane, on Saturday.

Ms Duffy appeared at last year’s Lit Fest, which is organised by Beam.

Beam Director Robert Powell said: “We are terrifically excited to welcome Carol Ann back to Wakefield.

“She really enjoyed her reading here last autumn and when I found out about her English cathedrals project we facilitated the connection with the Dean and Bishop here.

“When Carol Ann offered to read in support of the Lit Fest as part of her visit to the cathedral, we grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

“It’s a great opportunity, and Wakefield people are in for a wonderful and intimate experience at The Orangery.”

Saturday’s event runs from 6pm until 7.30pm. Tickets are priced £10/£7. For more information call 01924 215550. This year will be the third festival of reading and writing, running from September 19-30.

Ms Duffy will also present a poem about Wakefield Cathedral at it’s farewell service on Easter Sunday.
