Their project, entitled ‘foh-toh’, encourages photographers of all abilities to share their experiences in lockdown through images they have taken.

The pair began the initiative to help people of Wakefield and The Five Towns share photos and ideas during lockdown as a way of utilising their free time to express their creativity and share their photos with others in the district.

Amy said: “Lucy and I both work in events, so we’re used to interacting with people day to day and helping build Wakefield’s profile on the arts scene.

"But with lockdown a lot of the events and projects in the area have had to be cancelled or postponed, so we wanted to find a way to keep people engaged and feeling creative. I know there are a lot of people in the area with a keen interest and passion in photography.

“The foh-toh campaign seemed like the best way to connect creatives across Wakefield, whether it’s Outwood or Pontefract, we’re creating an online space where we can share photography techniques and tips and people can share their photos with us for a chance to be featured in our online exhibition coming up.”

Over the next seven weeks, a brief will be shared over Instagram, which gives Wakefield residents wanting to try their hand at photography a chance to explore different themes and share the photographs they’ve taken, by captioning their pictures with the hashtag #fohtoh.

At the end of the seven weeks, a few photos will be selected for an online exhibition for all to see.

The project is free for all to get involved in, and will begin on Sunday, June 21.

Amy said: “We’re working with a local photographer called Emily Ryalls, who’s working with a group of young, keen photographers aged 16-25 and they will be selecting the pictures to go in the online exhibition."

"Emily's project is called Our Diary, in it has launched with the aim of working with young people to document life in lockdown in the Wakefield District."

Emily is inviting applications from Wakefield based creatives, aged 16-25, to participate the Our Diary project to to collaborate over two months.

Amy said: “The Foh-toh project is something people can get involved with as it suits them, it’s very flexible so as we set weekly briefs, we hope people will connect with them and explore them with no pressure, using their phones or cameras.

“We decided to use Instagram as it’s free and accessible for anyone, using the #fohtoh, people can see what other photographers have been inspired by in the district.

“We wanted to give people something to focus on, hopefully this will bring creatives together and allow those involved to feel fulfilled, we need that sense of community at the moment.”
