Band’s LA trip brings them closer to reaching the stars

A STARSTRUCK local band have just returned from Los Angeles hoping the trip will have steered them towards a glitzy future.

Euphoria Audio, an indie-pop band from Wakefield and Featherstone, arrived home last week after recording tracks with award-winning songwriters Jeff Blue and Brandon Friesen.

During their stay they also visited the home of Guns ‘n Roses’ Matt Sorum to record drum tracks.

The band, who formed in 2003 while at Wakefield College, will use the tracks on an album they hope will be released by next summer.

Bassist Ben Hughes, 26, said: “It was such an overwhelming six weeks, full of photo shoots and interviews.

“It was amazing to meet so many massive industry people and they’re now talking about sending us to New York in the near future.

“The new contacts we’ve made will really help us get our name out.”

Ben said the band were moving towards a more mainstream sound for their upcoming album.

He said: “One of the tracks, called Speechless, is clearly influenced by American pop-rock bands.

“And with another track, called 3 Seconds, we’ve tried to make something bouncy that will work well live.

“The other two tracks are more ballad-type things.”

The band will showcase some of their new work at a gig at The Cockpit, in Leeds, on Saturday night.

Ben said: “It should be a good night. It’s a great venue and we’re expecting about 400 people.

“We’ve got about six songs ready that we’ve never played live before, so it’ll be interesting to see how they go down.”

Ben and his brother Josh Hughes are from Featherstone, while guitarist Ben Lloyd is from Outwood and vocalist Matthew Shirtill is from Stanley.

Saturday night’s gig will start at 7pm.
