Big Brother housemate, Chanelle Hayes launches cake business

She has starred on Big Brother, Celebrity Juice and the pages of Zoo magazine, but now Wakefield’s own Chanelle Hayes has turned her hand to a more homely career.

The reality TV star and glamour model has launched her very own cake making business – Love Cake Love Me.

With everything from Cookie Monsters, to leopard print and Dora the Explorer, Chanelle says she will try out any design on her cakes, cupcakes and cake pops.

The 24-year-old from Middlestown first found fame when she appeared on the eighth series of Big Brother in 2007, and became the main focus for many weeks because of her relationship with fellow contestant Ziggy Lichman.

She has since released a pop single, modelled for men’s magazines Nuts, Loaded and Zoo, and been splashed on women’s magazine pages for her rocky relationships with Middlesbrough football player Matthew Bates and Jade Goody’s widower Jack Tweed, who this week moved in with her.

But five years on from Big Brother, Chanelle is now focusing on being a working mum to one-year-old Blakely, her son to Mr Bates.

She has slogged away at six cake making courses and has proudly unveiled her uniquely designed Love Cake Love Me cakes.

She said: “I just love cake really! I made a list of names and my friends thought Love Cake Love Me was the best. I love cake, and everyone says I love myself - my friends said I’m either eating cake or looking at myself in the mirror, so it’s perfect really.

“My mum always brought me up to be cooking all the time – there’s always food at my house.

People love coming to my house, they come round and go straight for the fridge.”

The former Pontefract NEW College student still has a modelling contract with Zoo magazine, but hopes to extend the business that she set up six months ago at her home in Horbury where she lives with her son and Jack, her on-off partner of three years.

And although she said she wakes up to the smell of chocolate frosting filling her house, Chanelle does more than the popular chocolate and vanilla cupcakes and wedding fruitcakes.

She can whip up alcoholic flavours of mojito and strawberry daiquiri, as well as her own cupcake versions of cheesecake and carrotcake.

Chanelle said: “Blakely’s been my top taster for a lot of them, he thinks it’s great. It’s more the cakes than modelling at moment, I’m more interested in being a working mum than anything else right now.”

The business has taken off with more than 400 ‘likes’ on Facebook and supplies to the Cakes and Favours cake shop in Ossett - especially with seasonal specials for Valentine’s Day, mother’s day and Easter.

And alongside that, Chanelle is planning to go on Channel 4’s Coach Trip and run a half marathon in Leeds, as well as doing the Great North Run for the second time.

She added: “If I can get enough sponsor money I’ll run in my underwear.

“I’ve got 70,000 followers on Twitter so if all of those donated £1 I could raise loads.”

Chanelle’s cakes can be made to order with low fat and gluten, dairy and sugar free versions available.
