This one, organised by Wakefield Council, will blend digital activities, small scale participatory events and community library activities.

The council said its message was “make words count”.

Coun Jacquie Speight, Wakefield Council’s cabinet member for culture, leisure and sport, said: “It is really exciting to announce our plans for WordFest, given that so many other festivals and events have had to be cancelled this year in their traditional manner.

“The activities across the festival month will reinforce, celebrate and share the message that words impact every corner of our lives.”
