Butterfly wings to Wakefield

one of the best-loved operas in the world comes to Theatre Royal Wakefield next month when Madam Butterfly takes to the stage.

The ill-fated love story between geisha girl Cio-Cio San – Butterfly – and American naval officer Pinkerton has resonated across the world since its debut over 100 years ago.

Puccini’s work includes some of the most dramatic music written for the opera, including the magnificent aria One Fine Day, as it tells of the tragic story of Cio-Cio San, who falls in love with Pinkerton, but he abandons her after a false marriage, leaving her with a child and the mistaken belief he will return for her.
