Classic night of music with Brit winners Blake

A BRIT Award winning classical ‘boyband’ will be taking to the stage in Wakefield later this month.

Blake - Stephen Bowman, Oliver Baines, Humphrey Berney and Jules Knight - are heading to Theatre Royal Wakefield.

The band formed almost four years ago when Oliver and Jules, who have been friends since they were children, appealed for other members through social networking site, Facebook.

Stephen and Humphrey replied and Blake - named after William Blake, who wrote the words to Jerusalem - was formed.

Four UK number ones and worldwide fame followed, including picking up two Brit Awards and performing at Wembley Stadium and Buckingham Palace.

Their debut album went straight to number one in the UK classical charts and number 18 in the pop chart. Two more have followed.

Stephen told The Guide: “It is wonderful to be considered the biggest classical group and even more incredible that we just wanted to get together and sing.

“I would say the most amazing experience since forming Blake would probably be picking up our first Brit Award, which was for Best Album in 2008.”

Their latest tour An Evening with Blake, is their biggest yet with 26 dates.

Stephen said: “We have known each other a long time now and our shows are a lot of fun. There is a lot of joking around and banter between us. We love singing - it is what we do and we love singing to audiences. The best thing is the audiences want to keep coming back.

“It will be the first time we have been to Wakefield and we are very proud to be performing there. So far we have done nine concerts and they were all a sell-out so we are hoping to have a good turn out in Wakefield.

“This is our biggest tour so far and it has been quite hectic. We have been going from town to town in our Blake bus.”

The Guide has two copies of Blake’s special edition album Together to give away.
