Fundraiser for the injured players

Local singer and agent Jane Tracie was in touch with news of tonight’s show, which is set to raise funds for the club’s injured players insurance scheme.

Jane will present the show, as well as performing her Blondie tribute act. Also appearing on the night will be singers Kenny Martell, Ellie McKenzie and Natasha Parx.

Admission is free on the night, so why not go along and enjoy a lovely night out in the club which seems to be on the way, back from the brink.

Ex-Black Lace star Dene Michael, X-Factor contestant Alan Turner and Gene Pitney tribute singer Mal Martin make up the bill of fare on the entertainment front at Outwood wmc this weekend. It’s not many clubs these days that can proudly boast a three concert a week programme and this lovely audience really do deserve the best in entertainment.

It’s boy band time at Crigglestone wmc this weekend with the very entertaining and tuneful four boy act BoyzAloud on Saturday night. I took a look at these guys last summer and I was genuinely impressed with their vocal ability, which I’m afraid cannot be said for every so-called boy band out there.

The soon to retire clubland great Tony Wayne makes a local appearance this weekend at Thornhill Edge Club on Saturday night.

Tony takes his final clubland bow at Christmas, so this could be one of the last opportunities to catch Tony in action locally.

Fun duo 20th Century Rocks were a big hit the last time they appeared at Westgate Common Club. As a result this lively act make a return appearance to the club this weekend for a Saturday night show. I’m sure the club will be busy for this one.

Still on the subject of Westgate Common, I paid the club a visit last Monday evening where The Marty Jones Buskers Night is held every Monday evening.

The evening provides a great get-together point for local acts, who want to enjoy an entertainment based night out on an evening when most entertainers won’t be working.

Various singers got up to sing on the night and I was particularly tickled when the on stage data processor on stage was adjusted halfway through the show to read ‘please Mr Ritchie, give us a nice write-up’.

As ever I am happy to oblige and I would recommend Monday’s at Westgate Common to anyone out for a leisurely night out. I enjoyed the evening hugely and in particular the company of young Marty, who does his best to make everyone welcome.

The brilliant Band On The Run are one of the highest flying attractions in the live band market from that hot-bed of live bands, Newcastle upon Tyne.

Alverthorpe wmc is set to welcome these guys this weekend for a Saturday night show and the place should be packed to the doors for this one.

With attractions like Scandal, Brotherhood and the 70s style band Badfingers all coming up over the next few weeks at Alverthorpe, it seems as though things couldn’t be better on the entertainment front at this fine club over the next few weeks.

If you fancy a touch of the Irish this weekend then Wakefield City Club should be your port of call on Friday night. The Shamrockers are the star band attraction and let’s hope for a lively night out for one and all.

A local date for The Scratch Band is coming up at Crofton wmc, which I’m sure many of the bands friends and admirers will be flocking to. The big night is November 20, so don’t be late!

Local club official John Walsh rang me this week with news of the forthcoming Jim Tomlin memorial show, which is to staged early in the new year.

John has now asked me to compere the show and I am delighted to have accepted. I will have news of the club stars involved in this tribute to a great Clubmen in the near future.

Carlton wmc near Rothwell is the place to see a charity show on November 24. This club, right on the cusp between Wakefield and Leeds, will stage Here Come The Boys.

The all male company will feature club stars Paul Stewart, Jonathan Carroll, Johnnie Martell and comedy duo Funnybones. A well known local hospital fund-raising group will benefit from the evening, so why not go along?

Finally for this week, Horbury wmc concert secretary Stan Breedon tells me that his club is doing so well every single Saturday show night that their bar takings are bigger than ever.

It’s lovely to hear about a club that seems to be doing so well, especially in this day and age.

This weekends Saturday show should attract a packed house, with the club members favourite act Barricade appearing on stage.

I must admit to being a bit of a fan of This North Wales based act and I worked in a show alongside them last year.

Anyone planning to go along and see this comedy and music attraction in action on Saturday night really should try and get to the club as early as possible.

After all, this is the show of the year for this particular club.
