Half-term fun at Playhouse

Following its hugely popular run at the playhouse last year, smash-hit musical Britain’s Got Bhangra once again takes over the Quarry stage, with an irresistable mix of bhangra beats and dazzling dance numbers.

Promising to banish boredom and inspire a break-out of dancing from audience members of all ages, the award-winning show returns to West Yorkshire Playhouse from Tuesday October 25 to Saturday October 29.

Twinkle arrives in a cold UK, fresh from the fields of Punjab with a song in his heart and no money in his pocket. Singing at weddings, Twinkle becomes a local star and is quickly snapped up by a producer who realises there is money to be made from bhangra.

Shows take place at 7.30pm, with matinees on Thursday at 1.30pm and Saturday at 2pm. Tickets cost £11-£27.

As part of the show there is also a Celebrating Bhangra project on October 24 and 25 at 1.30pm, for 11 to 19-year-olds, and 14 to 25-year-olds with learning disabilities.

Explore different aspects of south Asian culture through storytelling and art. Develop drama techniques to tell traditional stories and create props and puppets for sharing at the end of the second day. Tickets cost £16, including a ticket to see Britain’s Got Bhangra.

Bob the Man on the Moon is a funny and delightful show for audiences aged three and above, inspired by the hugely popular award-winning book Man on the Moon by Simon Bartram.

In one whirlwind hour, travel beyond the stars and into the furthest reaches of the imagination with ace rocket pilot Bob, who looks after the moon.

Every day he vacuums space junk out of craters, enjoys a picnic lunch with his friends and entertains the space tourists. He knows almost everything about the moon and has never, ever seen an alien.

Bob the Man on the Moon is in the Courtyard Theatre on October 27-29, with shows at 4pm on Thursday, and 10.30am and 1.30pm Friday and Saturday. Tickets cost £8.50, schools and family tickets £7.

Also enjoy Bob the Man in the Moon indoor picnics on October 28 and 19 at noon. Children will get a lunch bag, enjoy some music and take part in special activities, plus a hot meal for adults. Tickets cost £7.50 and available for anyone with a ticket to the show.

Events are rounded off with a poetry slam on October 27, 28 and 29, from 10.30am to 2pm, with a performance from The First Cut, a playhouse touring company, followed by working with writer Michelle Scally-Clarke and musician Christella Litras, developing skills in creating poems, writing and performing, before creating an original piece of work. Sessions cost £10, for 11 to 19-year-olds.
