Murder mystery at Leeds Grand

Susan Penhaligon leads an all-star cast in Agatha Christie Theatre Company’s production of the compelling drama Verdict, which comes to Leeds Grand Theatre from August 15 to 20.

Having been forced to flee persecution in his home country, the brilliant and idealistic Prof Karl Hendryk leads a content and morally upstanding life.

But his world is turned upside-down when the prospect of life-saving treatment for his wife persuades him to take on a new pupil, against his better judgement – the spoilt and conniving minx Helen, who will stop at nothing to get her way.

With murderous intentions afoot, it only remains to be seen what verdict will be delivered and if justice will prevail.

Written and first performed in 1958, Verdict is one of the few original plays by the Queen of Crime not based on a novel or short story.

It premiered in the West End in May 1958 and ran for 250 performances before later going on to open in New York and Luxembourg.

Susan Penhaligon is joined by Robert Duncan (Drop the Dead Donkey), Lyndon Ogbourne (Emmerdale), Peter Byrne (Dixon of Dock Green), Elizabeth Power (EastEnders) and 60s pop idol Mark Wynter, along with Holy Goss, Cassie Raine, Andrew Malin and Mark Martin.

Tickets for Verdict cost £14-£27.50, available from www.leedsgrandtheatre.com or the box office on 0844 8482705.
