Our local clubs all set for Christmas Eve

Well folks, Christmas has finally arrived and while for some this is the season of long queues and short tempers, for others great nights out await on Christmas Eve.

I have just a word here about club admission policies at Christmas. Some clubs only allow members only on certain nights, so if you are planning on entering a club as a visitor, it may be advisable to give the club a call in advance and make sure you can get in.

Below are a few of the Christmas Eve highlights and we start in the Pontefract and Castleford area with Kellingley Social Centre where local lass Sarah Pollin will be singing. Sarah is a Christmas cracker of a singer and a great choice for this club.

Singer Mark Turver has recently returned from living and working on the holiday Island of Tenerife and I worked with him in the summer.

Mark is very keen on copious amounts of hi-tech equipment and he can certainly fill a dance floor. Mark appears at Pontefract Ex-servicemen’s Club on Christmas Eve.

Local three-girl act Sugarush are proving popular and Halfpenny Lane Club in Pontefract is the place to see the girls in action on Christmas Eve.

The brilliant Jimmy Echo is surely one of the all time clubland greats and Willow Park Club in Pontefract is set to welcome this great comedian, singer and musician on Christmas Eve. The folk at Willow Park are a lucky bunch.

I have been very impressed with singer Kevin Curtin since I saw him in action for the first time last year. Kevin appears on the big night at George V WMC in Castleford where a good night should be assured.

In the Wakefield area here are a few of the Christmas Eve highlights.

Comedian and impressionist Dave Ferry will be doing his thing at Horbury WMC. Dave is a lovely man and his clean and clever comedy is always worth listening to.

Girl duo Filthy Gorgeous are the star attraction at St John Terrace Club in Normanton on Christmas Eve, while just down the road at Hopetown Liberal Club in Normanton the experienced and thoroughly entertaining Cat’s Eyes will be on stage on the big night.

Top duo Red are always worth watching and Alverthorpe WMC always does well for entertainment, especially at Christmas.

It’s rock and roll time at Crigglestone WMC on Christmas Eve as rock and roll band Jump and Jive will be doing their thing. Crigg is a great place to have a dance and , if you love rock and roll this is the place for you.

Top duo Innuendo will be the star attraction at the resurgent Westgate Common Club, while down Barnsley Road at the New Brookhouse Club a new singer from Wakefield by the name of Natasha Parks will be the star attraction. I am currently hearing very good things about Natasha and hope to see her soon.

So folks, the yuletide scene is set and after almost a quarter of a century of writing columns for the Wakefield edition of this publication, it is again my pleasant duty to wish everyone in clubland a very merry Christmas and a more prosperous 2012.

I hope that the man in red brings you some nice parcels and that when you do venture out to celebrate Christmas Eve, the weather isn’t too wintry.

After all that white stuff looks much better on Christmas cards than it does when it’s lying all crisp and even.

Have a great time everyone and in next week’s column, we’ll be looking at New Year’s Eve.
