Premiere for the Project

churches, stately homes and the Yorkshire Sculpture Park are among the places where the Wakefield Live Music Project will be spreading the word during the coming months.

The third season of WLMP concerts continues the organisation’s quest to take classical and jazz music to new places and new audiences – and also features a world premiere performance.

The latter takes place on Saturday, July 16, at The Orangery, in Wakefield, when the Ligeti Quartet will play String Quartet No2 by Rachel Lockwood in front of an audience for the first time.

St Paul’s Church, Walton, will stage a three-part event on Saturday, October 1, comprising a cello masterclass with Sue Lowe, a recital by cellist Victoria Simonsen and pianist Marisa Gupta, then a jazz gig with the Gwilym Simcock Trio.

Complementing these concerts is a series of free ‘hot spot’ shows during July and August at the YSP, Nostell Priory and, opening the season The Orangery.

These will feature a range of formats, from string quintets through jazz quartets to classical guitarists – and even a solo tuba recital.

The Project’s Sandra Carlon said: “We’ve got some lovely musicians playing for us this season. Some are professionals, some are semi-professional and some are students – but they’re all fantastic performers and keen to make their mark.”
