Sun dream for duo

Born and brought up in Kinsley, Tony has many friends on Malta and he plans to start work as a teacher in a few months time.

Having many educational qualifications, Tony is always in demand at various educational establishments.

He also plans to go back on the stage at a cabaret club, which is being developed and refurbished in one of the island’s main resorts at the moment. I daresay his many friends will be flying out to pay a visit and I know that everyone in clubland will wish Tony all the best.

Young clubland star Luke Murgatroyd had only been on the circuit for 12 months, before winning the CIU clubland award for the best male singer last year.

Luke is now heading off on his next adventure as a cruise ship entertainer when he joins up with the Thomson fleet of cruise ships next month.

Luke tells me he is looking forward to this next phase of his career very much and I’m sure all his clubland mates will be wishing him all the best.

It’s great to see South Elmsall singer Demmi doing so well again in our clubs after a break from her solo career. This smashing lass is always worth listening to and, with lots of local dates in the pipeline there are plenty of opportunities to cash Demmi in action.

Ossett brothers Alan and Tony Reynolds have notched up a milestone of being members of Ossett Central Club for half a century.

Keen entertainment fans these guys also visit other clubs in our area, such as Horbury WMC, very regularly and being club people for so long is certainly worth a mention here in the Express.

I was finally out and about watching live acts again this week and I really must give a mention to Halifax comedian Lea Roberts.

This former rugby league star is now emerging as one of the funniest men in the North.

There is a lot less work around for comedy acts in clubs these days, which is a very sad development in my view.

If you haven’t seen a comedian on your club stage for a while, why not have a word with the powers that be in your committee room and see if they fancy having a laugh at the club for a change. You could do a lot worse than Lea Roberts.

As you read this column I have just returned from a few days in Spain for a rest and to celebrate my birthday.

I hope to have paid a couple of evening visits to downtown Benidorm, where some former members of the Wakefield clubland fraternity can be found. I shall report more on the subject of Wakefield-born Brits abroad in a future column.

I am hearing very good reports on a new clubland singer Lauren Faye Moss, whose agent is pushing her into the spotlight at the moment.

The lovely Lauren can be seen this weekend at Alverthorpe WMC for a Sunday visit. I may just pop in.

Local band Sixties Mix are shaking off the January blues with a Saturday night appearance at Crigglestone WMC. Local fans of this Altofts band should be heading along to cheer the lads on.

Netherton WMC near Wakefield is staging a family afternoon this weekend in the company of family band Beardsmith.

I hear that the club is being acquired by members of the community, so why not take the kids and go along on Sunday and enjoy some great entertainment? DJ Mick McGinley will also be on hand with a bit of the old karaoke.
