TV funnymen bring in the laughs at theatre

A TRIO of laughs will be coming to Wakefield for a night of fast-paced comedy.

Funnymen Frank Carson, Duncan Norvelle and Ian ‘Sludge’ Lees – who have entertained millions on TV shows including The Comedians, Tiswas, Celebrity Squares and Noel’s House Party – will unite for A Night of Comedy 2011 at Wakefield Theatre Royal.

The extravaganza on Saturday March 5 follows on from their sell-out tour at venues across the UK in 2008.

Frank, 84, became a popular performer on Irish television, before moving to England to work as a stand-up club comedian.

He had success on the long-running television music-hall revival show The Good Old Days and went on to win the peak-viewing national favourite talent show Opportunity Knocks three times.

He was also one of the most noticeable of the acts when he appeared on The Comedians alongside the likes of Charlie Williams, Bernard Manning, Mike Reid and Jim Bowen.

With the catch phrase “Chase me”, comedy impressionist Duncan, 52, has been a household name for many years.

At the age of 17 he embarked on a tough apprenticeship in working men’s clubs across the UK.

With his cheeky smile and friendly rapport with an audience, his career has taken him all over the world entertaining.

Ian, who is affectionately known as Sludge, was twice voted Midlands Comedian of the Year and came runner up to Tom O’Connor in the Club Mirror Awards.

Soon the small screen beckoned – Sludge became a regular member of the Tiswas cast and followed this with regular appearances on shows such as The Comedians, Summertime Special and Live From Her Majesty’s.

Tickets cost £18, £16 and £14 and are available online at www.theatreroyal wakefield.co.uk or by calling the box office on 01924 211311.
