Wakefield Eats launched in the city this week, and has already signed deals to deliver food from more than a dozen local businesses, including Cafe 19, The Conservatory Tea Room, EATS Sandwich Bar and Rice N' Spice.

As well as offering business owners cheaper fees than many competing apps, Wakefield Eats promises to donate a proportion of their profits back into the community.

To mark their opening weekend, they will donate money to local charity Wakefield Street Kitchen for every order they receive.

A new food delivery app has launched in Wakefield, offering fresh deliveries from local businesses, and promising a fair deal for local takeaways. More than a dozen local businesses have already signed up to Wakefield Eats.

Founder Steve Herd, who launched the app after seeing the success of other Eats brands across the country, said: "It's a takeaway and food ordering app for the Wakefield and surrounding areas only.

"We charge takeaway and cafe owners roughly half the rate of other apps, and we advertise them locally.

"What makes us different is that we're actually putting a lot of the money back into local good causes.

"We’re here to ensure that money spent in our community, stays in our community.

"We're supporting Wakefield Street Kitchen and donating 30p per order this weekend to them."

Restaurants involved in the scheme are responsible for choosing their own delivery radius, but Steve says the majority of outlets will be available across Wakefield, including Ossett, Horbury, Lofthouse and Outwood.
