Neptune Diner, known for its British comfort food, took the top spot by being crowned first place.

The cafe, on Westmorland Street, has proven to be extra popular with its loyal customers and has now been in the top three for the accolade for four years running.

John Joannua, director at the diner, said: “It’s great that we have won and we are thankful for the voters.

“With everything that’s going on at the moment, we feel like we’ve won at the wrong time - but we are so thankful to the customers who voted for us.

“We are so pleased and would like to reassure our customers that we have a higher hygiene standards than ever and we will continue to open for as long as we can, or told otherwise.

Mr & Mrs C’s, on the Bull Ring in the city centre, has been awarded second place for the second year running.

With vintage decor the cafe offers a range of sandwiches, sweet treats and hot drinks as well as providing a range of vegan options.

Owner Dawn Dainton, said: “It’s just lovely to know customers are voting for us - We appreciate them all.

“It’s really nice that they keep coming back and voting for us.”

Third place winner was Cathedral Kitchen at Wakefield Cathedral.

Manager Ea Nielsen said they are really pleased with the award, even though it’s come at such an uncertain time.

“We haven’t had a chance to celebrate with everything that’s going on at the moment, but we’re really pleased,” she said.

“We do what we can for the community and the city’s homeless people by offering a hot meal, a drink and try to guide them.”

Ea said they hold quarterly events called Eat Up, Stand Up, which provides a meal and the chance to listen to a visiting speaker.

“We’ve had The Real Junk Food Project speak, held one last week with Camphill in Wakefield about employment.

”We do what we can to help.”
