Schools across the district have been forced to close to some or all students after cases of coronavirus were confirmed among staff and pupils.

These are all the schools in Wakefield and the Five Towns that are currently closed to pupils.

Airedale Academy

In a letter to parents on Tuesday evening, Airedale Academy principal Lyndsey Proctor said the school was facing unusually high levels of staff absence.

As a result, all Yeah 9 students have been asked to work from home until Wednesday, November 18, with online learning provided.

Miss Proctor said: "We recognise that this is not ideal; however, we will review the situation regularly and give you a further update on Wednesday 18th November, when we hope the staffing situation will have improved.

"We will endeavour to return students to lessons in school as soon as it is possible to do so."

Carlton J & I School

Three classes are currently out of school at Carlton Junior and Infants, following a confirmed case of Covid-19.

Both year 1 bubbles, as well as a year 2 bubble, remain closed at this time.

Normanton Newlands Primary School

The Communication Resource at Newlands Primary School, which provides specialist support to students, is closed while staff isolate.

The team will remain closed until Tuesday, November 24.

Outwood Academy Freeston

In a letter to parents, Outwood Academy Freeston principal Lisa Allott said the school was facing "exceptional levels of staff absence" and a number of positive tests in Year 11.

As a result, Year 11, Y band have been asked to self-isolate, and will be learning from home until Monday, November 23.

Year 10 are also learning from home until the end of the week, and will return on Monday, November 16.

Year 9 students are also learning from home, and will be allowed to return to school on Monday, November 23.

Sandal Magna Community Academy

The reception class and morning nursery group at Sandal Magna Community Academy remain closed while members self-isolate.

Southdale CE (VC) Junior School

Class 5EZ at Southdale CE (VC) Junior School, in Ossett, is currently closed.

St. Giles CE Academy

St. Giles CE Academy has closed to two classes while staff and students self-isolate.

A number of nursery staff are self-isolating are coming into contact with someone carrying Covid-19, meaning there are insufficient staff to care for the children.

Additionally, class 1/2 are self-isolating due to a positive case, and will return to school on Monday, November 23.

Stanley Grove Primary and Nursery School

Class 3 at Stanley Grove is closed until Monday, November 23.
