Outwood Grange £6.5m arts centre on hold as building firm goes bust and cuts 350 jobs

Hundreds of redundancies have been made UK-wide after GB Building Solutions, the company working on a new arts and drama block at Outwood Grange Academy, went into administration.

The company confirmed that 63 jobs had been lost at its Wakefield office on Navigation Court.

Around 350 jobs in total will be lost at the company, which also has offices in Surrey, Newcastle, Rugby, and Stockport.

The firm was also building a £32m hotel in Leeds.

In 2013 it was appointed as the builder of Outwood Grange’s new arts centre, which was to contain performance space, art studios, galleries and music recording studios at the Potovens Lane school.

The centre was supposed to be finished last September.

Finance company BDO LLP has been appointed as the administrator of GP Group Holdings and GB Building Solutions.

BDO’s Tony Nygate said: “Regrettably, it has been necessary to make all employees redundant, save for a small number to assist the Administrators.”

Outwood Grange Academy is yet to comment.
