As a result, they have closed their branch surgery on Fryston Road and converted all pre-booked appointments at both clinics to telephone consultations.

Prescriptions will be sent electronically to pharmacies and patients have been asked to avoid visiting the surgery under any circumstances.

The full statement reads: "In the exceptionally challenging circumstances we are currently facing with Coronavirus, we are making some changes in order to be able to protect our patients and our staff.

"We already have both doctors and other staff who are either unwell or are following Government advice to self-isolate, so we are taking the difficult decision to close our branch surgery on Fryston Road so we can continue to operate safely from our main Henry Moore Clinic site.

"With immediate effect, we will be triaging all requests to be seen on the telephone only. Any pre-booked appointments will be converted to telephone appointments. In exceptional circumstances, the doctor may need to assess you face to face but this will be arranged with them.

"Please DO NOT come down to surgery as we will not be able to see you. If you are requesting medication you should ring the surgery and register to have your prescription sent electronically to the chemist. All non-essential work is currently postponed to help us deal with the current situation.

"We will continue to do our absolute best for patients and ask for your patience during this difficult period for everyone. If you know someone who is lives alone or is vulnerable, please do try to check on them or help them out.

"We are encouraging all patients to follow us on Facebook as we will be regularly posting updates on our services."
