Confirmed cases of coronavirus in Wakefield reach 229

A total of 229 people in the Wakefield district have now tested positive for Covid-19, Public Health England has confirmed.
It marks an increase of 29 cases in 24 hours, the largest increase for one day in the district so far.

Hide AdThe figures, which are accurate as of 9am on Thursday, April 9 2020, mean that there is now one confirmed case of the virus for every 1,500 people in the district.

It comes as NHS England confirms that at least 62 people have died at hospitals managed by the Mid Yorkshire NHS Trust after testing positive for the virus.
The Trust, which runs Pinderfields, Pontefract and Dewsbury and District Hospitals, has suspended all visitors to its sites in an attempt to slow the spread of the virus.

Hide AdThese figures include five deaths on Saturday and six on Monday, though could change as further post-mortems are carried out, NHS England said.
The government has previously said that there are likely thousands of undiagnosed cases in the UK.
